Lidl Food Academy has opened its doors and is now ready to welcome lovers of cooking of all ages, including children. In addition to cooking lessons, the academy provides wine tasting classes, as well as seminars on nutrition and wellbeing.
“Within five years, not only have we opened 14 Lidl stores throughout the island, we also offered cooking lessons. And the demand was so high that we decided to proceed with the pioneer Food Academy project,” said Head of Management Hellas & Cyprus, Iacovos Andreanides.
“I’m certain this specific academy will receive a number of visitors from Europe,” he added.
Vasiliki Adamidou, PR and CSR Manager at Lidl Hellas, went a step further, saying: “All of the Academy’s services, such as cooking lessons, seminars on nutrition, food and wine tasting etc will be free of charge to our customers. Lidl Food Academy is our way to reward the trust, support and love of our customers.”
Also present at the inauguration of the academy was Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister Nicos Kouyialis who thanked Lidl Cyprus for its contribution to championing Cypriot gastronomy and for giving local producers the opportunity to promote their products abroad.
Greek chef Lefteris Lazarou told InBusinessNews television that Lidl Food Academy, “the home of taste” as he described it, aims at pleasing Cypriot lovers of cooking as well as sending the message that there is more than one way to use an ingredient, giving food a different taste and aroma each time.
The Academy is equipped with six complete modern kitchen units where up to 40 people can work together simultaneously. Students use Cypriot and Greek products. The instructor’s kitchen unit is equipped with audio-visuals and students can follow the process through television monitors. Lessons are given by Cypriot chef Konstantinos Petevinos.
All cooking classes are provided free of charge to all Lidl customers, who secure their participation through a draw. To take part in the Lidl Food Academy’s free cooking classes all you have to do is fill in a coupon available at counters next to the cashiers at all Lidl stores since early 2016. Lidl Food Academy is on 34 Stasikratous Street in Nicosia. [The address is already at the top, do you want to keep it here too?]
Lidl’s 15th outlet – the latest – opened in Ypsonas, Limassol district, on December 17.
Lidl is also planning to extend its Logistics Centre in Larnaca in 2016 to allow faster expansion.
Lidl Cyprus plans to add to the range of local produce available at all of its stores by providing traditional products consumers asked for in a study.
